Custom Corrugated Boxes
Corrugated board packaging — E-flute, B-flute, BC-flute, and litho-lam. The material category for shipping, mailer, and retail display.
Quick answer
Custom corrugated boxes are built from corrugated board — a fluted medium sandwiched between two liner boards. Flute types determine strength: E-flute (1.0–1.5mm) for retail mailers, B-flute (2.5–3.0mm) for shipping, BC-flute (5.0–6.0mm) for heavy freight. Litho-lamination adds premium full-color print to E-flute. Used for ecommerce fulfillment, shipping, retail mailers, POP displays, subscription boxes, and heavy/fragile items. MOQ starts at 100 units. Lead time is 10–15 business days after sample approval. Sample fees are credited against your first production order. DDP shipping to 50+ countries including USA, Canada, Germany, France, UK, Italy, Spain, Australia, Japan, South Korea, Singapore, Malaysia — no surprise customs fees.

Overview
What it is, and when to use it.
Custom corrugated boxes are built from corrugated board — a fluted medium sandwiched between two liner boards. The flute type determines the box's strength, weight, and print surface: E-flute (1.0–1.5mm) for retail mailers and litho-lam, B-flute (2.5–3.0mm) for shipping cartons, BC-flute (5.0–6.0mm) for heavy-duty freight. Corrugated is the structural material behind three of our product categories: mailer boxes (RETF tuck-front), shipping boxes (RSC slotted carton), and display boxes (POP counter and shelf). This page focuses on the material itself — flute selection, board grades, FSC chain-of-custody, and litho-lamination for premium printed corrugated. If you know the format you need, jump straight to Mailer Boxes (RETF), Shipping Boxes (RSC), or Display Boxes (POP). If you are evaluating corrugated as a material for a custom format, start here. We manufacture corrugated boxes from 100 units, with white samples in 5–7 business days and printed samples in 7–10 days. Every project runs on a dedicated line in our 18,000 m² FSC-certified facility in Foshan, China, with ECT and burst-test QC on every batch.

Buyer's decision framework
When to choose corrugated boxes
Corrugated is the right answer when the box needs to survive shipping protection — crush resistance, puncture resistance, and stacking strength. The flute selection determines the trade-off between print surface, weight, and strength.
- 1
Does the box need to survive carrier shipping alone?
Yes — corrugated is the right material. If the box ships inside another outer carton (retail shelf only), choose folding cartons (paperboard) instead. Corrugated is for primary shipping protection; paperboard is for retail shelf presentation.
- 2
What flute type fits the product weight?
E-flute for retail mailers under 1 kg. B-flute for standard ecommerce shipping (1–8 kg). C-flute for heavier items (8–15 kg). BC-flute (double-wall) for heavy or fragile items (15+ kg) and bulk freight. When in doubt, choose B-flute — it is the industry default.
- 3
Direct flexo print or litho-lam wrap?
Flexo for high-volume shipping cartons (5,000+ units) where print quality is secondary. Litho-lam for retail mailers and display boxes where print quality matters — full-color CMYK or Pantone on the corrugated structure. Litho-lam costs more but delivers premium print quality.
- 4
ECT or burst strength rating?
ECT (Edge Crush Test) for palletized shipping and warehouse storage — 32 ECT is the standard. Burst strength (Mullen) for individual packages handled roughly in transit — 200# minimum. Most ecommerce corrugated is specified by ECT. For heavy or fragile items, ask for burst-rated board.

Materials
Board & paper options
- ●E-flute (1.0–1.5mm)The thinnest flute. Smooth print surface, ideal for retail mailers and litho-lamination. Takes direct print or litho-lam wrap. Not for heavy items.
- ●B-flute (2.5–3.0mm)The standard shipping flute. Good crush resistance, good print surface. The default choice for RSC shipping cartons and standard mailers.
- ●C-flute (3.5–4.0mm)Thicker flute for heavier items. Higher crush resistance than B-flute but rougher print surface. Common for larger shipping cartons and industrial parts.
- ●BC-flute (5.0–6.0mm, double-wall)Double-wall construction for heavy-duty freight. Two fluted layers plus three liners. Used for heavy or fragile items, bulk food, and industrial parts.
- ●Litho-lam wrap (157 gsm art paper)A printed art paper sheet laminated to E-flute for premium retail corrugated. Gives you full-color CMYK or Pantone print on a corrugated structure — the format for premium mailers and display boxes.
- ●FSC-certified corrugated boardRequired if your brand makes a sustainability claim on-pack. We hold FSC license A000511 and supply chain-of-custody documentation.
Printing & finishes
How it gets dressed
Printing
- Flexo print (direct)Recommended for high-volume shipping cartons (5,000+ units). Lower print quality than offset but significantly lower cost for simple line art, logos, and single-color branding on bare kraft.
- Litho-laminationRecommended for premium retail mailers and display boxes. A printed art paper sheet is laminated to the corrugated board — gives you full-color CMYK or Pantone on a corrugated structure.
- Offset CMYK (on litho-lam)Recommended for 1,000+ units and full-color photographic artwork on litho-lam wrap. Lowest per-unit cost at volume for premium printed corrugated.
- Digital print (on litho-lam)Recommended for 100–1,000 unit runs. No plate setup, fast turnaround, ideal for market tests and seasonal launches.
- Pantone spot colors (on litho-lam)Recommended for brand-critical color matches (logo reds, brand blues) where CMYK cannot reproduce a corporate color.
- No print (bare kraft)Recommended for industrial shipping cartons and cost-down fulfillment. Lowest cost option — the natural kraft liner is the finish.
Finishes
- Aqueous coating (eco, water-based)
- Matte or gloss lamination (on litho-lam)
- Foil stamping (on litho-lam)
- Spot UV on matte grounds (on litho-lam)
- Die-cut window with PET or cellulose film
- Euro-slot hang tab
- Crash-lock bottom (auto-erect)
- Tamper-evident seal

Ordering & pricing
MOQ, lead time, and what drives the unit cost.
Every box is custom — there is no flat price list. Here is what you need to plan around, and what we will confirm in your tailored quote within 24 hours.
MOQ & sampling
MOQ is 100 units per SKU for litho-lam corrugated, 500 units for flexo-printed shipping cartons. We can run smaller quantities as a sample or pilot program — ask us.
Lead time
Standard lead time is 10–15 business days after sample approval. Flexo-printed shipping cartons run faster (10–15 days). Litho-lam mailers and display boxes run 10–15 days because the litho-lam wrap adds a pass. Air freight (5–7 days) and sea freight (28–35 days) are both available.
How to read pricing
Final pricing is confirmed in your tailored quote within 24 hours. We do not publish a flat price list because every corrugated box is custom — but we will always show the unit cost at 100, 500, 1,000, 5,000, and 10,000 units so you can see the volume curve before committing.
What affects the unit cost
Seven factors that move the quote.
Flute type
E-flute adds a meaningful per-unit cost at 1,000 (litho-lam). B-flute adds a modest per-unit cost at 1,000 (flexo). C-flute adds a modest per-unit cost at 1,000. BC-flute is the most expensive option at 1,000 (double-wall).
Board grade (ECT or burst)
32 ECT is the standard. Higher ECT (40, 44) for heavier stacking. 200# burst for rough handling. Higher grade = higher cost but stronger protection.
Print method
Flexo (direct) lowest cost, lower quality. Litho-lam (offset or digital on art paper wrap) higher cost, premium quality. No print (bare kraft) lowest cost.
Finishes (litho-lam only)
Aqueous coating included. Matte/gloss lamination adds a small per-unit cost. Foil adds a modest per-unit cost. Spot UV adds a small per-unit cost.
Construction
RETF tuck-front (mailers) standard. RSC slotted carton (shipping) standard. Crash-lock bottom (auto-erect) adds a small per-unit cost. Custom dielines add tooling cost.
Windows & hang tabs
PET window adds a modest per-unit cost. Compostable cellulose window adds a modest per-unit cost. Euro-slot hang tab adds a minimal per-unit cost.
Volume
Per-unit cost drops sharply from 100 → 500 → 1,000 units, then gradually to 10,000. At 5,000+ units flexo-printed corrugated becomes the dominant cost choice.

Real project
A snack brand's subscription program

- Client
- DTC snack subscription (representative example)
- Challenge
- A DTC snack subscription brand needed a mailer that would survive carrier shipping, hold 6 snack bags securely, print a full-color brand pattern inside and out, and keep per-unit cost within an aggressive per-unit budget at 5,000 units.
- Format chosen
- RETF mailer in B-flute with litho-lam wrap, 330×220×120mm. Full-color CMYK print inside and out on 157 gsm art paper. Aqueous coating outside for scuff resistance. Die-cut hang tab for retail-ready variant. No window.
- Result
- The B-flute construction passed carrier drop tests at standard parcel sortation. The litho-lam wrap delivered full-color brand photography on the corrugated structure. The format scaled from 1,000-unit launch to 5,000-unit steady state at a per-unit cost that met the brand's per-unit cost target.
Frequently asked
Questions about custom corrugated boxes.

Browse our FAQ center100 units.
Our standard MOQ for custom corrugated boxes is 100 units per SKU. At 100 units we use digital print on litho-lam wrap. From 1,000 units, offset litho-lam becomes more economical. For bare kraft flexo-printed shipping cartons, MOQ is 500 units.
E-flute for retail mailers, B-flute for shipping, BC-flute for heavy freight.
E-flute (1.0–1.5mm) for retail mailers, litho-lam, and premium display — smooth print surface, not for heavy items. B-flute (2.5–3.0mm) for standard shipping cartons and mailers — the default choice for most ecommerce. C-flute (3.5–4.0mm) for heavier items — higher crush resistance but rougher print. BC-flute (5.0–6.0mm, double-wall) for heavy-duty freight, bulk food, and fragile items.
Corrugated is fluted medium + liners (3+ layers); paperboard is single-ply solid board.
Corrugated board is a fluted medium sandwiched between two liner boards — three layers minimum, designed for crush resistance and shipping protection. Paperboard (SBS, kraft board) is a single-ply solid board — designed for print quality and retail shelf presentation, not for shipping protection. Choose corrugated for anything that ships through a carrier; choose paperboard (folding cartons) for retail shelf packaging that does not need to survive shipping alone.
A printed art paper sheet laminated to corrugated board for premium print quality.
Litho-lamination is a two-stage process: first, the artwork is printed offset or digital on a 157 gsm art paper sheet; second, that printed sheet is laminated (glued) to the corrugated board. The result is full-color CMYK or Pantone print quality on a corrugated structure — the format for premium retail mailers and display boxes. Litho-lam costs more than direct flexo print but delivers print quality that flexo cannot match.
Yes — 7–10 business days for a printed sample, 5–7 for a white sample.
We provide white samples (unprinted, exact construction) in 5–7 business days and printed samples (your artwork, finish, and color) in 7–10 business days. Sample fees are credited back against your production order. For corrugated, the white sample also confirms the flute type, board grade, and ECT rating — all critical for shipping protection.
ECT measures stacking crush resistance; burst strength measures puncture resistance.
ECT (Edge Crush Test) measures how much stacking weight the board can resist before collapsing — the right spec for palletized shipping and warehouse storage. Burst strength (Mullen) measures how much puncture force the board can resist before bursting — the right spec for individual packages handled roughly in transit. Most ecommerce corrugated is now specified by ECT (32 ECT is the standard). For heavy or fragile items, ask for burst-rated board (200# minimum).
Yes — corrugated is the most-recycled packaging material globally.
Corrugated board is curbside-recyclable in standard paper streams and is the most-recycled packaging material globally (typically 90%+ recycling rate). If you choose a litho-lam wrap with foil or lamination, recyclability is reduced — check with your local recycler. For brands making a sustainability claim on-pack, choose FSC-certified board, water-based ink, and skip foil. We supply chain-of-custody documentation for all FSC-certified projects.
10–15 business days after sample approval.
Standard production runs 10–15 business days after sample approval — faster than rigid formats because corrugated is machine-converted, not hand-wrapped. Flexo-printed shipping cartons run faster (10–15 days). Litho-lam mailers and display boxes run 10–15 days because the litho-lam wrap adds a pass. Air freight (5–7 days) and sea freight (28–35 days) are both available.
